A man with a beard and brown shirt working with a steampunk-style robot in a dimly lit room, with a SEID Projects logo in the bottom right corner.

The workshop is alive - not with movement, but with momentum. Echo, the Mechanic’s dormant creation, lies still as steam rises from the morning brew. When a mug topples and coffee spills into his core, a pulse ignites. For a moment, he awakens… then fades. But the Mechanic doesn’t give up.

With Rivet observing and Jynx sparking chaos, he grinds, brews, and trusts his instincts, searching for the perfect blend.

When he finds it, Echo doesn’t just wake… he becomes part of something greater.

The journey has truly begun.

  • The workshop was awake, though no one had moved.

In the early morning glow, steam drifted through beams of amber light. It curled from copper pipes and danced across the ceiling like it had somewhere to be. Every surface was cluttered with pieces of inspiration. Open sketches on the walls, blueprints draped across easels, prototypes half-assembled and half-abandoned. The workbench overflowed with gears, screws, sprockets, fragments of brass, and the quiet ache of obsession.

And yet, amidst the mess, there was order. Rhythm. Like each piece knew its place, even if it hadn’t arrived there yet. Jynx stretched lazily on a stack of parchment, her white fur smudged with charcoal. Her goggles sat lopsided across her head. She didn’t care. She flicked her tail once, twice, and resumed her post: casual chaos with a watchful eye. Rivet, the mechanical frog with copper plating and eyes that glowed faintly, stood sentinel atop a coil of wire. Unlike Jynx, he never moved without meaning. He simply stared at the Mechanic… or maybe at what the Mechanic hadn’t noticed yet.

On the floor, still and nearly complete, lay Echo. The automaton’s shell was sleek yet raw - curved shoulders of matte steel, reinforced joints, sockets waiting for final pieces. His core was open. Empty. Waiting.

The Mechanic stood beside the steampunk coffee machine, wiping sleep from his eyes with the edge of his sleeve. The air was thick with the aroma of roasted beans and warm copper. He didn’t smile, not quite, but there was a softness in his face. A kind of hope that had stopped expecting anything, yet still refused to leave. He poured the first cup of the morning, watching the dark brew swirl inside the copper mug. Then, he set it down gently on the workbench and turned toward Echo.

That’s when he saw it. The steam rising from the mug didn’t just float. It formed. Gently, as if led by an unseen breath, it curled into the faintest shape of a heart before dispersing. He froze. Jynx perked up. Rivet blinked. On the floor, Echo remained still.

The air had changed. There was a Tone humming somewhere in the bones of the room; not heard, but felt. A vibration in the gears. A tension in the air. The Mechanic took a single step toward the automaton, when Jynx, ever the unpredictable assistant, leapt from her perch. Her paws landed squarely on the edge of the workbench. The copper mug tipped. Before a word could be spoken, it crashed to the floor. Coffee surged forward in a small wave… and splashed into the open core of Echo. It sizzled against metal. A low whirring sound began to pulse from deep within Echo’s chest.

Then... A spark. A light. A pulse of violet energy erupted from Echo’s center, threading its way through wires and plating like lightning discovering its path. The Mechanic stood frozen. Jynx stared, unblinking. Rivet croaked once, quietly, but with something that sounded like acknowledgment. Echo moved. He sat up. He opened his eyes. The glow wasn’t just mechanical. It was aware. Curious. Alive.

The Mechanic stepped forward, one hand outstretched. “You’re… awake.” Echo tilted his head, then placed his hand flat against the Mechanic’s. For a moment, they held the world still.

Then Echo twitched. His limbs jittered. Lights flickered. The violet hue pulsed faster, then red, then nothing. With a metallic exhale, Echo collapsed to the floor once more. Silence returned like a ghost. The Mechanic just stared. One hand still hovering midair.

Jynx looked up at him, as if to ask: Did I do that? But there was no guilt in her eyes. Only the familiar curiosity of someone who preferred to learn by touching the thing she shouldn’t.

The Mechanic sat beside Echo, head in his hands. “I thought that was it…” Rivet, from his perch, let out a low mechanical croak. The Mechanic looked up. The Tone was still there. Vibrating faintly in the metal. Whispering beneath the wood. He turned toward the coffee machine. Steam still curled upward from its spout. Another heart. Not a coincidence.

He stood. “Jynx had the right idea… but maybe it wasn’t just coffee.” He pulled bags of beans from every shelf. Light roasts, dark roasts, earthy, acidic, smokey - beans from all across the market, most unlabeled, a few impossible to replace. He began to grind. By hand. Mortar and pestle. Each crack of the bean was an act of faith. Each blend a small defiance against failure. Jynx sat at the edge of the bench again, this time with polite patience. Rivet did not move, but the faint pulse in his eyes brightened, just a little.

The Mechanic brewed. One blend. Then three. Then eight. Cups lined the counter, each steaming with potential. He tasted. Rejected. Tried again. Until one. He sipped. Paused. Then whispered: “This… is the one.”

He knelt beside Echo, gently opening the core chamber. In his hand was the perfect blend of coffee beans. The result of instinct, memory, and something else entirely. He poured the mixture in slowly. Carefully. Then sealed the core with the brass plate, rotating it until the mechanism clicked into place.

He stood. Picked up the matching cup from the workbench - his cup. The same blend. He took a final sip. The steam rose again, curling into a soft, deliberate heart. He walked over to Echo. And with no hesitation, he poured the rest of his mug - his spark, his belief, into the sealed core.

A low hum began. A pulse of violet light surged from the core. Echo’s limbs moved, this time not in a twitch but a flow. His eyes ignited. His posture lifted. He stood. The glow no longer flickered. It pulsed in rhythm. Steady. Intentional.

Echo turned toward the Mechanic. The Mechanic stared back. They reached for each other at the same time. Hands connected. And something unspoken passed between them. Something old, yet just beginning. A courtship, sealed with a handshake.

From her perch, Jynx gave a low, approving trill. She licked her paw, completely satisfied with herself. Rivet blinked slowly, as though confirming a quiet theory he had held all along.

The Mechanic turned to his bench. He picked up the last pouch of beans and tucked it into his satchel. On the label, written in ink and oil: Echo Blend.

He walked toward the front of the workshop. Echo followed, steady and silent, his eyes scanning the room like a newborn trying to memorize a dream. Jynx hopped off the bench and joined them at the door. Rivet remained a moment longer, casting one last glance at the workshop before hopping after them with a soft, weighted clank.

They stood in the doorway. The Mechanic turned and looked back. One last time. The workshop hummed in its stillness - full of ghosts, of gears, of discovery. He stepped outside and closed the door.

Boots on stone. Trees overhead. They followed the winding path through the woods. Steam curled in the distance. Not from machines, but from the morning air. And there, between the trunks, barely visible on the horizon…

The faint outline of a city made of gears and symmetry. Axis. The Tone led. And so... they walked.

Lyrics

Beat by beat, heat by heat,
Rise to meet, feel the seat.

The sparks will climb; Echo Awakes.
The path will shine; through mirrored lakes
The gears will bind; Echo Awakes.
The hum will rise; the silence breaks.

The frame is set; the gears align.
The signal hums; a steady sign.
The final piece; begins to glow.
It is time; the pulse begins to flow.

Waking the core inside,
The gears all turn; they start to spin.
Waking the core inside,
The engine roars; it pulls me in.
Waking the core inside,
The time has come; it starts to rise.
Waking the core inside,
Echo hums; it comes alive.

The frame is set; Echo Awakes.
The time will come; the rhythm shakes.
Each piece in place; Echo Awakes.
The final step; the balance makes.

Echo stands; its hum is clear.
It finds the tone; we’ve yet to hear.
Through mirrored time; we walk in stride.
The truth within; will be our guide.

Waking the core inside,
The gears all turn; they start to spin.
Waking the core inside,
The engine roars; it pulls me in.
Waking the core inside,
The time has come; it starts to rise.
Waking the core inside,
Echo hums; it comes alive.

The gears align; Echo Awakes.
The spark will climb; the current quakes
The path is forged; Echo Awakes.
The signal hums; the city wakes.

Turn by turn, feel it burn.
Time to learn, no return.
Hum by hum, drum to drum,
Here we come, won’t succumb.
Step by step, clockwork kept.
Tone is prepped, Echo swept.
Spin to spin, level within,
We begin, we won’t give in.

Waking the core inside,
The gears all turn; they start to spin.
Waking the core inside,
The engine roars; it pulls me in.
Waking the core inside,
The time has come; it starts to rise.
Waking the core inside,
Echo hums; it comes alive.

The hum surrounds; Echo Awakes.
Through echoed time; the silence breaks.
The pulse aligns; Echo Awakes.
We take our steps; the rhythm takes.
